CHILLY GONZALES

Gonzales, born Jason Charles Beck, is a Grammy-nominated Canadian musician currently residing in Paris, France. Though best known for his first MC and electro albums, he is also a pianist, producer, and songwriter.He regularly collaborates with the Canadian musicians Feist, Peaches and Mocky. Additionally, he has collaborated with Jamie Lidell on the albums Multiply and Compass, and Buck 65 on the album Secret House Against the World. According to The New Yorker, "when Gonzales released an album called 'Presidential Suite', Feist accompanied him on tour around Europe and Australia." As one of the most talented and flat-out entertaining musicians around, you’d expect Chilly Gonzales would have no trouble finding an audience. Yet aside from his successes as a producer, he is yet to make a solo record that lives up to the experience of his critically lauded live performances. Okay, there’s Solo Piano, a beautiful collection of original piano compositions, but somehow that record doesn’t feel like a Gonzales record at all, devoid of the character that makes him one of a kind.

His latest project Ivory Tower, the soundtrack to a film of the same name that he writes and stars in. While the very nature of a soundtrack makes this unlikely to be the record that thrusts him into the mainstream eye, it carries all the hallmarks of Chilly Gonzales the entertainer. ‘Knight Moves’ eases the album into motion in the form of a sweeping instrumental with delicate piano and string arrangements, before two minutes into the second track, Chilly utters his first words, “I’m a dogshit ashtray”. Just when you thought Gonzales had slipped into the realms of serious musicianship, he brings the tone back down with a series of witty and often hilarious one liners. The song continues: “I’m an imperial armpit sweating Chianti, I’m socialist lingerie, I’m diplomatic techno, I’m gay pastry and racist cappuccino...who am I? I am Europe”. Such a song might have had a short lifespan in other hands, but the strength of the accompanying melodies gives it replay value.

Stylistically, Ivory Tower finds Gonzales treading new ground once again: produced entirely by Boys Noize, the record has a pulsating euro-pop flavour. This approach has varying degrees of success, but for the few misplaced blasts of garish synths and computerised vocals, there are neat disco rhythms that add depth to a still-piano-dominated album. Elsewhere there are some down tempo instrumentals in ‘Bittersuite’ and ‘Final Fantasy’, and occasional witty interjections, but vocals are used sparingly throughout. This can make for some fairly long instrumental sections that feel padded out for the sake of the soundtrack, but don’t necessarily work as standalone pieces of music. The best moments, then, are those of joyous pop like ‘You Can Dance’, or clever wordplay as in ‘The Grudge’, that combine his personality with his prowess as a pianist.

Sou um especulador porque tento ganhar dinheiro nos mercados de capitais e tento fazer com que os meus clientes ganhem dinheiro. Sou um especulador porque tento comprar barato e vender caro. Sou ainda mais especulador porque, muitas vezes, tendo vender caro para depois comprar mais barato. Sou especulador porque vivo dos mercados financeiros.

Este parasita da sociedade que vos escreve lamenta informar-vos que sem especuladores não existiriam mercados financeiros. Eles existem desde o primeiro minuto da sua criação e a liquidez que os tornam apetecíveis são garantidos por estes parasitas da sociedade, como eu. Duvido, que sem, especuladores existissem tantos jornalistas a escrever neste jornal. Duvido também que as corretoras ganhassem tanto em comissões e os Estados em todas os impostos e taxas que o negócio dos mercados financeiros envolve.

Lamento também que, como analista, não esteja sistematicamente a dizer que a Bolsa portuguesa vai subir e que o futuro é cor-de-rosa. Bem sei que muitos leitores me acusam de estar a contribuir para o acentuar do pessimismo nacional e para o afundar da nossa confiança. Recordo que o meu papel é dizer o que penso e fazer dos meus leitores as pessoas mais bem informadas possíveis. Não sou eu que vou salvar a Bolsa portuguesa mas, se conseguir que quem me leia possa estar mais ciente da realidade, estarei seguramente a cumprir o meu papel. Mas lamento de novo não ter andado optimista no último ano e não me juntar à hipocrisia de quem via as recuperações em cada décima percentual de ganho num daqueles indicadores tão interessantes como as telenovelas mexicanas. Felizmente, não negoceio no mercado português (apenas para clientes portugueses), senão lá viria a acusação de dizer mal para comprar barato.

Todos os dias durmo de consciência pesada quando vejo José Sócrates, a sua equipa ministerial, o poeta candidato à Presidência da República e mais de metade dos deputados do Parlamento apontarem-me a mim e aos meus colegas especuladores como responsáveis pelo estado a que o país chegou. Por vezes, chego até a sonhar que fui eu que decidi as políticas fiscais, fui eu que tomei as decisões de investimento, tracei as linhas orientadoras das políticas sociais e fui eu que decidi que Portugal devia ser o rei dos Institutos Públicos porque temos dinheiro e perfil para isso.

Como especulador, gosto sempre de acreditar que a culpa dos nossos fracassos é nossa. Aprendi, com a dureza do mercado, que atirar a culpa para cima dos outros é apenas ter medo de enfrentar o erro, as opiniões dos outros e não nos conduz ao sucesso.

O Governo e a maioria dos deputados pensa o contrário. Acha que a culpa desta crise é minha e dos meus colegas especuladores. Provavelmente, ecos de José Mário Branco que no seu "FMI" clamava: "A culpa é vossa, a culpa é vossa, a culpa é vossa".

Se José Sócrates dormir mais descansado, eu assumo que a culpa do país estar neste estado é minha. Aliás, todos acreditam nisso.

Simian Mobile Disco are a UK based production and remix team. The band was formed in 2005 by James Ford and Jas Shaw of the band Simian. In addition to his work with Simian Mobile Disco, James Ford is a producer and has worked with bands such as Florence & the Machine, Arctic Monkeys, Peaches and Klaxons.
Delicacies is the third studio album by British electronic band Simian Mobile Disco. It was released on the iTunes Store on November 23, 2010, and released in physical form on November 29, 2010. It is a collection of tracks inspired and named for various unusual foods the band have sampled while touring the world, hence the name. It has a stronger techno influence than their first two albums. Not to forget the recent EP, that they made with the vocalist Beth Ditto of  Gossip.

Simian Mobile Disco, will be showing the goods,this thursday 20 of January in one of the best houses of Portugal, and i will dare to say from Europe, a show that you should not miss.

The first episode was directed by Martin Scorsese and was the most expensive pilot episode produced in television history. On September 1, 2010, HBO picked up the series for an additional 11 episodes.
The series debuted on September 19, 2010.
With is creator, Terence Winter, wich is the father of the serie "The Sopranos". A big time hit for many years in the television, wining many globes as well.

 

The tale of Mickey and Mallory Knox, two victims of traumatized childhoods that became lovers and psychopathic serial murderers irresponsibly glorified by the mass media. The message, if you can call it that, is that we are obsessed with violence, and the director Oliver Stone exposes our love for it and spits it back in our faces. Apart from the great role played by Woody Harrelson and Juliette Lewis, i have to distinguish the well done carachter by Robert Downey Jr.
The three words that will better describe this movie would be:
Hypnotic ,Violence and Media.
